County Characteristics of Registered Voters
The deadline to register to vote for tomorrow’s election was Friday, October 10, 2014. Just over 6.6 million voters registered in time for Election Day, according to data from the North Carolina State Board of Elections.
Statewide, 42% of voters are registered Democrats. Northampton County has the highest share Democrat (76.4%), followed closely by Hertford (76.3%), and Bertie (75.6%).
Thirty percent of voters are registered Republican. Mitchell (62.4%) and Avery (60.1%) have counties with the highest share of voters registered Republican.
Just over a quarter, 27%, of all registered voters were unaffiliated with a political party. Currituck (39.8%), Watauga (39.3%), and Henderson (37.3%) counties have the highest share of unaffiliated voters. Edgecombe (10.4%), Hertford (13.8%), and Anson (14.4%) have the lowest share of unaffiliated voters.
Statewide, only 0.4% of individuals are registered with the Libertarian party. In Watauga County, the county with the highest share of Libertarian registrations, Libertarians comprise only 1% of the electorate.
